PURPOSE:To position an optical axis accurately by determining the extent of driving of a mechanism having multi-numbers of degrees of freedom on a basis of the variation of the optical power from a fiber for driving of this mechanism to search the fiber position. CONSTITUTION:A laser diode chip 1 is fixed to a submount 2 and this submount 2 is fixed to a part 3. An optical fiber 4 is fixed through a hole of the central part of a column whose one end is fixed to the frame part 3, and the output terminal is led out to the external through a hole of the frame part 3. Since it is necessary to align the diode chip 1 and the optical axis of the optical fiber 4 with about 1mum precision, the column 5 is moved in X, Y, and thetadirections. The output of the diode chip 1 is detected by a detector 14, and a command value to the actuator of a mechanism 6 having multi-numbers of degrees of freedom (fine movement) is determined by a control circuit 15 on a basis of displacement just before movement and driving data due to displacement of the output, and this actuator is driven, thereby moving the column 5 for said alignment.
