PURPOSE:To reduce a loss of a transformer during no load operation and to prolong the life of apparatuses, by detecting the position of a running electric car to judge a transformer corresponding to the position of the running car in accordance with the detection signal, and by operating the associated transformer alone. CONSTITUTION:Transformers 4a through 4d for converting a.c. power into d.c. power are connected between an a.c. power source bus 1 and a trolley line 2 through a.c. breakers 3a through 3d. Position detectors 7a through 7d for detecting the presence of an electric car 6 are laid along a rail 5, corresponding to common connecting points (a through d) on the trolley line 2. Further, detection signals from the position detectors 7a through 7d are delivered to a transformer judging circuit 81 after they are amplified by an amplifier circuit 80 in a center control section 8 in order to determine a section where the electric car 6 runs at present. Thereafter, an operation instruction output circuit 82 delivers an operating instruction to one of the a.c. breakers 3a through 3d for the instant section in accordance with the result of the determination.
