The invention relates to a fermentation process for the production of butanol and acetone in the presence of a Clostridium acetobutylicum strain, the fermentation being of the continuous or batch type. The invention is characterised in that the culture medium is then fed to an ultrafiltration zone, the retentate containing the biomass being at least partially recycled to the fermentation zone.
