A circuit arrangement is specified by means of which it is prevented that when a television program with only one sound carrier is received, the mode switch (6) of a television receiver equipped for receiving a two-channel sound component switches to the STEREO mode. This is achieved by means of a device (10, 11) which, when a program with only one sound carrier is received, effects the mandatory MONO state of switching. <IMAGE>
