PURPOSE:To count the number of holes within a short period without needing any complicated computer softwares by scanning the object of measuring in the direction crossing that of the moving and by comparing the signals of each scanning line with those of immediately preceding scanning line. CONSTITUTION:The object of measuring 4 is moved by a conveyer device 3 in the direction crossing that of the moving. The object lets the light from a light source 1 reach a photodetecting part 2 at its parts of the holes. The part 2 assumes the object 4 to be a mass of dots, digitizes the existence and absence of the holes in a manner that the reception of light makes '1' and non-receiving of light makes '0', and transmits the digits. A storing part 5 sequentially stores the signals transmitted by the photodetecting part 2 for each scanned width of the object 4. The signals that the part 2 is currently transmitting and those of the last line stored sin the part 5 are synchronized and inputted to a counter part 6. The counter part 6 adds one to the counting of its counter when the currently transmitted signals turn from '0' to '1', but subtract '1' from the said counting when the AND-output of the signals currently transmitted and those of the last line shift from '1' to '0'.
