PURPOSE:To reduce a decrease in output due to a tape running and to prolong the life of a rotary magnetic head device by making the projecting amount of the magnetic head of a trailing head larger than that of a leading magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The leading head 11 and trailing head 12 which use magnetic amorphous materials for main cores 15c and 15d, and 15a and 15b forming the magnetic gaps 13 and 14 differing in inclination are fitted on the same head base 20 opposite across an interhead center line 28 to constitute a magnetic head 27, which is mounted on a rotary magnetic head disk 10 slantingly and symmetrically at the interval of 180 deg. so that the distance from the center (o) to the magnetic gap 14 of the trailing head 12 is larger than the distance to the magnetic gap 13 of the leading head 11. Consequently, the quantity d' of projection of the magnetic gap 14 of the trailing head 12 is larger than the quantity d'' of projection of the magnetic gap 13 of the leading head 11.
