PURPOSE:To lengthen the life of a pratically antimony-free sealed lead-acid battery by using a clad type positive plate and the excess amount of electrolyte by controlling sulfuric concentration and utilizing the stability of gas. CONSTITUTION:A core 1 is made of practically antimony-free lead alloy such as a lead-calcium-tin alloy, and forms a clad type positive plate together with a positive active material 2 and a tube 3. A negative plate 4 is formed with a practically antimony-free lead alloy grid filled with active material. The amount of sulfuric acid contained in a gelled electrolyte 5 is increased to two times or more against the electrochemical equivalent of the positive active material 2 or the negative plate 4. To increase the amount of sulfuric acid, the space between the positive and negative plates is widened, no separator is used, the porosity of the separator is increased, the gel is filled on the outer surface of a plate group by installing ribs in a container, or the space to be filled with the gel is enlarged. The high concentration of sulfuric acid in the gelled electrolyte is preferable. |
