PURPOSE:To make it possible to remove the substance to be removed in a liquid by physical or chemical adsorption while holding usual filtering function, by dispersing a powdery adsorbing material in the outer peripheral part of a filter chamber in a tank. CONSTITUTION:When a powdery adsorbing material X such as an ion exchange resin is supplied in a tank 1 from an inflow port 7 by driving a pump P, said adsorbing material X is stirred in the tank 1 by the stream reaching an outflow port 13 from the inflow port 7 and the equilibrium relation with its own wt. to be dispersed to the peripheral part of a filter chamber 18 in a state coming to low concn. toward an upward direction. Next, when a liquid to be treated is flowed in the tank 1 from the inflow port 7, said liquid is mixed with the aforementioned adsorbing material X in the outer peripheral part of the filter chamber 18 to receive adsorption treatment and, when the adsorbing material X is an ion exchange resin, a metal ion such as Ca<+> or Na<+> present in an ionized state in the liquid is removed. Further, the liquid to be treated is trans mitted through a filter member 23 to be flowed in each filter chamber 18 and subjected to filtering action to be converted to a purified liquid.
