A spanner with torque amplification consists of a transmission (7), a drive part (6), a location part (4) for a screwing tool (5), a fixed housing (2), and a supporting part which is rigidly fastened to the housing (2). The axis of the location part (4) and of its screwing tool (5) runs in alignment with the axis of the drive part (6), the transmission being formed by a basic body (13) provided with a central tapped hole (11) and rotatably mounted relative to the housing (2), a spindle (19) inserted into the tapped hole (11), a driving tube (22) rotatable relative to the housing (2) and surrounding the spindle (19), and a bolt which extends transversely to the longitudinal axis of the spindle (19) and via which the spindle is coupled to the driving tube (22). The input-side rotary movement of the drive part (6) is thus first of all transformed into an exclusively axial movement of the spindle (19), which in turn is converted again into a purely rotary movement of the driving tube (22), to which the location part (4) is rigidly fastened. The construction according to the invention not only permits simple manipulation but also a compact type of construction at a high torque transmission ratio. <IMAGE>
