PURPOSE:To improve the reading accuracy by providing wavelength selecting mirrors having plural different spectrum reflectances to a color decomposing means and combining the mirrors so that each of the mirrors is formed to have a prescribed curvature into a cylinder. CONSTITUTION:The color decomposing means 8 has a cylindrical support pillar 9 whose axial line is in parallel with a photodetecting plane of a CCD 7, the wavelength selecting mirrors 10-12 having different spectral reflectances provided to the circumferential face of the support pillar 9 and a driver driving the pillar 9 around the axial center. The spectral reflectances of the mirrors 10-12 are different as alpha-gamma and the shape of the mirrors is formed so as to have an equal curvature. In a color original reader, when the read scanning is started, the reflected light of the original 1 passes through a slit 5, reflected in the wavelength selecting mirrors 10-12 of the driven color decomposing means 8 and a slit image is formed on a CCD 7 via a lens 6. Thus, the reading is attained with simple structure, compactness and high accuracy.
