PURPOSE:To provide a material for a shadow mask having a lowered coefft. of thermal expansion, reduced yield strength and a lowered modulus of elasticity by adding specified amounts of Ni and V as essential components to Fe. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consisting of 30-45wt% Ni, 0.1-5.0wt% V and the balance Fe with impurities or further contg. one or more among <=5wt% each of Cr, Mo and W is used as a material for the shadow mask of a color cathode- ray tube. The alloy has <=about 6X10<-6>/ deg.C average coefft. of thermal expansion in the temp. range of 20-100 deg.C, <=about 20kgf/mm<2> offset yield stress strength at 0.2% permanent set after annealing at 1,000 deg.C or 1hr, and >=about 15,000kgf/ mm<2> modulus of elasticity. By the characteristics, the alloy is easily press- formed, causes no color shift and is not deformed during the production of a cathode-ray tube or the use of the tube.
