A material containing tocopherol is placed in contact with a quantity of methanol sufficient to form two phases, one of which is enriched in tocopherol, the latter phase then being separated and sufficiently cooled to cause the formation of two new phases, one of which is a second methanol phase enriched in tocopherol, which is separated to recover therefrom an even more purified tocopherol. The invention finds its main application in the preparation of vitamin E.
