PURPOSE:To prevent the flawing of a metallic strip by contact with a nozzle plate of a continuous annealing furnace by curving said nozzle plate and floating and supporting stably the metallic strip so as to travel along the curve thereof. CONSTITUTION:The metallic strip 11 carried into the continuous annealing furnace 1 from an inlet part 2 thereof is heated by burners 6, 6..., to 800-1,200 deg.C. A high-temp. gas is sucked by a circulation fan 8 and is forcibly fed to the nozzle plate 12 which is provided in the lower part of the traveling route for the metallic strip 11 and of which the longitudinal section is curved to a smooth mound shape. The gas forced therein is blown at a high rate out of respective supply openings 13, 13... provided in the upper part of the nozzle plate 12 to float and support the metallic strip 11 so as to travel along the curve of the nozzle plate 12.
