PURPOSE:To bend a metallic plate with excellent work efficiency by measuring the bending shape with the dispacement gage of the measuring instrument fitted to a presser and by controlling the pressure force of the presser from the result thereof in case of bending a metallic plate with the press device consisting of a recessed face lower die and projecting face presser. CONSTITUTION:A metallic plate material 5 is subjected to bending by placing it on the lower die 1 having a recessed surface and by pressing with the presser 2 having a projecting surface. In this case the main body 1 of measuring instrument is fitted by a sliding member 10 to the supporting frame 3 of the presser 2, an articulated arm body is composed by arms 14a, 14b with the arm holding rod 12 and connecting members 13a, 13b, and a displacement gage 15 is fitted to the tip thereof. The inclination of the bending surface of the metallic plate material 5 is correctly measured under moving the displacement gage 15 to before and behind, to right and left by the articulated arm body and the bending is performed in the prescribed curved surface by moving the metallic plate 5 with handling device 4.
