PURPOSE:To permit time division two-line reading with FPN reduced by reading a signal at second time which is charged and converted using a color separation filter with the least transmissivity. CONSTITUTION:A vertical scanning circuit 10 outputs pulses P1, P2...Pn which keep high level during sequential horizontal retrace period. Externally impressed driving pulses P5 and P6 are added so as to AND with the pulse P1, P2 to selectively read each picture element in a light-receiving section. Picture elements in Cy and Ye are read first during the horizontal retrace period and then picture elements in W and G are read. In other words, when charges of each picture element in the light-receiving section are vertically transferred, and two-line reading is done with a transfer circuit for this transfer time-divided after draining unnecessary charges in the circuit to outside, the signal of the picture element with the minimum signal volume among elements separated in the color separation filter is read later. This improves the S/N of the signal read later, and reduces FPN.
