PURPOSE:To reduce the Curie temp. and further to increase the Kerr's rotating angle and the Faraday's rotating angle by adding at least >=1 kind of element among Pb, Bi and Sn in a Gd-Tb-Fe ternary alloy photomagnetic recording film. CONSTITUTION:At least >=1 kind of element among Pb, Bi and Sn is added to Ge-Tb-Fe which is the essential composition of an amorphous photomagnetic recording layer to form a photomagnetic medium consisting of the following composition and impurities. In the composition [(GdxTb100-x)yFe100-y]100-z(PbalphaBibetaSnr)z, 0<x<=50at%, 17<=y<=35at%, 0<z<=30at%, alpha+beta+gamma=100at%, 0<=alpha<=100at%, 0<=beta<=100at% and 0<=gamma<=100at%. Consequently, the Curie temp. is low enough to enable the writing by laser and a material, the Kerr's rotating angle of which can be made larger than that of an alloy film consisting of rare earth metal-transition metal, can be obtained.
