NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic SF-2398 substance having the following physical and chemical properties and its salt. Elemental analysis (%) (free acid):C 66.14, H8.31; molecular formula: C38H56O11 (free acid) [FD-MS m/z 711(M+Na)]; molecular weight: 688; melting point: 85 deg.C (free acid), no change is observed up to 290 deg.C (Na salt); [alpha]D<20>=-134.6 deg. (C=1, methanol); soluble in metahnol, and ethyl acetate, and insoluble in chloroform and water; positive in Lemieux, iodine, sulfuric acid reagent and negative in ninhydrin, Grieg-Leaback and FeCl3; acidic; white powder, etc. USE:An antibacterial agent against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and an antifungal agent against molds. PREPARATION:A strain such as Streptomyces sp. SF-2398 (FERM P-8118), etc. belonging to the genus Streptomyces is cultivated preferably by submerged culture at 26-32 deg.C for 2-10 days. |
