<p>PURPOSE:To make it possible to carry out a steering control operation which is highly reliable in long time use and against environmental variations, by providing a contactless type sensor for detecting a relative rotational displacement between a steering wheel side input shaft and a steered wheel side output shaft due to a twist of a torsion bar. CONSTITUTION:A stub shaft 2 as an input shaft coupled to the steering wheel side is coupled with a pinion shaft 3 as an output shaft coupled to the steered wheel side, by means of a torsion bar 4 so that they are relatively rotatable in a predetermined angle range. Further, there are arranged a Hall element 20 and a magnet 21 opposing the former, which consititute a contactless type sensor for detecting a relative rotation between both shafts 2, 3 due to a twist of the torsion bar 4 so that a steering torque is detected in accordance with the output of the Hall element 20. An electrically operated motor 10 is driven in accordance with the thus detected steering torque to transmit a steering assist force to the pinion shaft 3 through a reduction gear mechanism 11 (12-14).</p> |
