ADHERING CURED POLYMERS OR PREPOLYMERS TO HIGH NATURAL RUBBER CONTENT ELASTOMER

Damaged articles of cured natural rubber or blends of natural rubber and up to 30 wt.% synthetic rubber are repaired by (a) cleaning the damaged area; (b) applying a halogen-contg. oxidant dissolved in 1,2- dichloroethane; (c) applying to the treated area an amine-curable polymer or prepolymer and an amine-curing agent in a polar solvent; and (d) curing the polymer or prepolymer so that it is bonded to the rubber substrate. The process is used to repair damage tyres, conveyor belts, hoses, rubber boots, and so on.
