PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform the setting of a margin by the simple operation of switches, by mounting a margin data storing apparatus for storing the data showing a position, where a carriage is stopped, as margin data according to right and left margin setting modes. CONSTITUTION:When a right margin is set after paper 11 was mounted to the arbitrary position of a platen 12, a right margin setting mode switch 15 is turned ON. Next, a carriage rightward moving switch 18 is pushed to allow a carriage 13 to move to the right to stop the same at an objective position. When the carriage 13 exceeds the objective position, a carriage leftward moving switch 17 is pushed to return the carriage 13 to the left. The carriage 13 is stopped at the objective position on paper 11 by this operation and a margin setting switch 16 is pushed to perform the setting of the right margin. When a left margin is set, a left margin setting switch 14 is turned ON. The operation on and after is same to the setting operation of the right margin. The order of margins to be set is arbitrary.
