PURPOSE:To impart excellent surface properties such as excellent lubricity, water repellency, soundproofness and abrasion resistance to the surface of a polymer elastomer, by pretreating the surface of this elastomer and coating it with a surface treating agent containing a curable polyurethane and a curable silicon. CONSTITUTION:A curable polyurethane is prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate (e.g., diphenylmethane diisocyanate) with a polyol. A surface treating agent for imparting lubricity and water repellency is prepared by using the above curable polyurethane and a curable silicon (e.g., curable polyorganosiloxane) as film forming components and adding, if necessary, a silicon oil, a particulate product (e.g., titanium dioxide or nylon powder). This surface treating agent is applied to the surface of a polymer elastomer (e.g., automobile weather strip) which has been subjected to pretreatment for imparting adhesiveness (e.g., solvent washing and buffing).
