PURPOSE:To simplify the mounting of a thermal head to a printer and to enable high resolving power, by arranging first and second indivisual electrodes in opposed relation to each other through heat generating resistors so as to shift the mutual connection pitches thereof by a half pitch. CONSTITUTION:The end part of a substrate 9 having first and second indivisual electrode layers 11, 12 and a protective glass layer 13 laminated thereto through a glass layer 10 coming to an electric insulating layer and a heat resistance layer are cut so as to expose electrode layers 11, 12 and a heat generating resistor 14 is formed to the cut end surface. The electrode layers 11, 12 are formed so that the connection pitches (l) of the electrode layers 11, 12 and the heat generating resistor 14 are equal and mutually shifted by a half pitch l/2. When the indivisual electrodes 11a, 12a are simultaneously driven, the recording width of one dot comes to almost l/2 and recording dissolving power two times the connection pick is obtained. A thermal head may be mounted so as to allow the end surface of the substrate 9 to oppose to recording paper 6 and a driver, a diode and accessory wiring becomes remote from a platen 5 and the thermal head can be simply mounted without obstructing the feed of the recording paper 6. |
