NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I (R' is H, or CH3; R is 1-36C alkyl; M is H, alkali metal, NH4, alkylamine, or alkanolamine). EXAMPLE:Sodium dodecyl 3-hydroxy-3-methacryloxypropylphosphate. USE:Useful as an artificial high polymer membrane, etc., having surface active properties, auto-tissue properties and polymerizing properties. Obtainable industrially advantageously. PREPARATION:A monoalkali metallic salt (preferably >=90wt% purity) of monoalkylphosphoric acid shown by the formula II is reacted with preferably 3-5mol based on 1mol monoalkali metallic salt of a (meth)acrylic acid glycidyl ester shown by the formula III preferably in an aqueous medium at 50-90 deg.C and, optionally neutralized, to give a compound shown by the formula I. Preferably 50-10,000ppm polymerization inhibitor (e.g., hydroquinone monomethyl ether, etc.) may be added during the reaction.
