PURPOSE:An oxygen absorbent for absorbing oxygen at room temperature at normal pressure under a mild condition efficiently, and carrying out absorption and desorption reversibly, containing a high polymer Schiff base metallic complex consisting of a specific constituent unit. CONSTITUTION:The aimed oxygen absorbent containing a high polymer Schiff base metallic complex (preferably iron or cobalt complex) consisting of a constituent unit shown by the formula (n is 0-20; m is 2, or 3; M is metal such as Fe, Co, Cu, Ni, Mn, Cr or Zn; i and j are in i+j=1, and i >=0.1). The oxygen absorbent may contain <=10wt% another polymer to improve film-forming properties.
