A container, eg for pills, is made by extruding an elongate tube of plastics material, the tube having a rectangular outer cross-section and an elongate central cylindrical cavity, cutting the tube transversely into a plurality of container body portions, closing one end of each body portion by a base, and closing the other end of each body portion by a top. The tube is preferably of foamed plastics material, eg polystyrene, with a sleeve 10 of plastics material, eg formed from a sheet of material with its longitudinal edges welded together (Figs. 4, 5), lining the tube. The top and base may each comprise a plastics, eg vinyl, sheet heat sealed or attached by adhesive to the tube ends and provided with a strip of magnetic material 14 for recording information. The top preferably includes a removable closure (Fig. 4) or a tear off portion (Fig. 10). The top and base may be removable (Fig. 12) and may include a plug or flange portion which press fits tightly within the cylindrical cavity (Figs. 8, 9) with optional additional welding. A second cylindrical cavity (Fig. 11) may be provided for a second product, eg solvent or brush for paint in the main cavity. Labels may be applied to the rectangular faces of the body portion. The diameter of the internal cavity may be chosen from a plurality of different diameters, the external dimensions of the body portion remaining the same whatever the cavity diameter. <IMAGE> |
