A resinous product is made by reacting a conjugated polyolefinic unsaturated compound containing one or more carboxyl or amino groups, with an epoxy compound containing at least two oxirane groups, the reaction being conducted at a temperature and for such a period of time as to insure a Diels-Alder reaction involving at least a part of the conjugated diene system, whereby a cured product is obtained. Specified epoxy compounds are the condensation products of polyhydric polynuclear phenolic compounds with epi- or di-halohydrins, e.g. Epon 828. In the Examples:- (1) and (2) sorbic acid is reacted in the presence of N,N-dimethyl-a -methyl benzylamine with (1) Epon 828, (2) the reaction product of epichlorohydrin with a phenol-formaldehyde novolak; (3) Epon 828 is reacted with trans, trans-muconic acid in the presence of triethanolamine and (4) Epon 828 is reacted with 5-phenyl-2,4-pentadienoic acid in the presence of diallymelamine. |
