PURPOSE:To enable continuous machining at tapered and non-tapered portions by modifying the corner section of grinding wheel into tapered section or removing the tapered grinding face in the way of a series of grindings. CONSTITUTION:A grinding wheel modifying tool A performing two-dimensional motion relatively against a grinding wheel is provided while first modifying program DPGR1 of forming a tapered grinding face and second modifying program DPGR2 for forming a grinding face at the tubular section are stored in the memory C of numeric controller B. Control means D will execute the program DPGR1 prior to grinding to tapered machining portion thus to form a tapered grinding face of corresponding angle at the corner section of grinding wheel G and to grind the tapered machining section. Thereafter, the program DPGR2 is executed to remove the tapered grinding face on the outercircumferential face of the grinding wheel G.
