Process and apparatus for removing layers of paint or varnish coatings

In the case of a process for removing layers of paint or varnish coatings applied on structural parts, in which process an abrasive-blasting means is directed onto the structural part by means of a centrifugal wheel, the description is given of a control means for the abrasive-blasting action in dependence of the material thickness of the structural part. The control means for the abrasive-blasting action operates such that, when removing layers, surface tensions which arise do not exceed a degree of saturation determined in comparative tests. An apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a hydraulically driven centrifugal wheel in which there are incorporated measuring devices, for measuring the distance between the centrifugal wheel and the structural part from which layers are to be removed and for measuring the thickness of the structural-part surface, and a computer with a display panel. <IMAGE>
