PURPOSE:To obtain an optical waveguide having both a collimating action of light and a condensing action by forming an optical waveguide connected to an optical waveguide of the surface of a substrate, on the surface of a recessed part which has been formed on the surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:The light which has been emitted from a light source 21 such as a laser diode, etc. provided on one end of a substrate 10 is propagated so as to be condensed to one point P on a peripheral edge 12 of a semi-spherical surface optical waveguide 11a by an optical element 22 such as a waveguide lens, etc. formed on the substrate 10. The light which has passed through the point P is collimated in a process in which it is propagated through the semi-spherical surface optical waveguide 11a, and thereafter, condensed to a point Q on the peripheral edge 12 positioned at the side opposite to the point P. The light which has passed though this point Q proceeds to a light processing circuit 23, some light processing is performed in this optical circuit 23, and thereafter, the light is photodetected by a photodetector 24 which has been provided on the other end of the substrate 10. The light which has been emitted from one point of the peripheral edge of the semi- spherical surface is condensed roughly ideally to one point of the opposite side, therefore, there is no influence of an aberration, and an ideal collimating and condensing characteristic is obtained. |
