PURPOSE:To achieve improved optical adhesion by impregnating a patterned powder layer formed on a base plate with a solution of silosesquioxane to form a mixture layer having a specified refractive index between the powder layer and the base plate. CONSTITUTION:After a film consisting of a photoadhesive composition made of a water-soluble aromatic diazonium salt is applied to a base plate 2 used for the face plate of a color cathode-ray tube, the film is exposed to light into a given pattern and a given powder is fixed to the exposed areas thereby making a patterned powder layer 1 consisting of a phosphor layer. Next, the layer 1 is impregnated with a solution of silosesquioxane having a methyl or phenyl group as the substituent to form a transparent mixture layer 3 with a refractive index of 1.2-2.0 between the layer 1 and the base plate 2. As a result, the efficiency of production of fluorescent light (L) is increased by reducing the amounts of light reflected by the surface of the layer 1 and the inner and the outer surfaces of the base plate 2, thereby achieving increased optical adhesion.
