A fluid for the removal of printing ink and silk screen printing colours is prepared from an essentially anhydrous mixture of a) γ-butyrolactone and/or N- methyl-2-pyrrolidone in a quantity of 1-25 vol%, b) one or more propylene glycol derivatives chosen from amongst substituted propyl acetates with the formula <IMAGE> where R is a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6 alkyl group, and/or a propylene glycol ether with the formula <IMAGE> where R1 is a C1-C6 alkyl group and n is 1, 2 or 3, and optionally c) an aliphatic diluent with a flash point of over 22 degrees C, and/or d) a surface-active agent. Such a liquid can remove every kind of printing ink and silk screen printing colour and is free of substances that constitute a health hazard.
