PURPOSE:To protect the surface of an oxide film or a colored film of titanium nitride or the like formed on the surface of a Ti or Ti alloy substrate as well as to deepen the color of the film by using the substrate as an electrode and carrying out coating by electrophoresis in a specified soln. as water soluble pint for electrodeposition. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a Ti or Ti alloy substrate is colored golden by forming an oxide film or a colored film of titanium nitride or the like. The substrate to be used as an electrode is put in a soln. of a polymer made soluble in water with a tertiary amine or a quat. ammonium salt or a soln. of a polyamine polymer having amino groups made soluble in water with an acid as water soluble paint for electrodeposition. DC is supplied to the substrate in the water soluble point to carry out coating by electrophoresis. A paint film is formed on the substrate by the coating.
