A silencer unit in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines has a housing (16) defining a cylindrical working chamber (18). In the working chamber (18) a rotor (40) is rotatably mounted which has three vane-shaped arms (44-48), which are made to rotate by the exhaust gas fed in eccentrically by way of an inlet port (28). The rotor (40) compensates for pressure surges in the exhaust gas flow by variations of its angular velocity. <IMAGE>
