PURPOSE:To confirm the editing state of an edited master tape by reading the information on the extracting section of a source picture image inserted to a vertical flyback section or an effective scan line section out of a monitor visible area and the tape position information recorded on the master tape and comparing these two types of information with each other. CONSTITUTION:The information code signal delivered from a generator 13 is supplied to a mixer 14 serving as an inserting means for information on an extracting section. Then the information code signal is put into a vertical flyback section of a video signal to be recorded in response to a command sent to the mixer 14 from a controller 8 in an editing mode. The information code signal put into the vertical flyback section is supplied to a VTR4 for editing record and recorded on an editing master tape. In an editing check mode after an editing job, the information code signal on an extracting section for a source picture image recorded on the editing master tape is read by a time code reader 15. This code signal is supplied to a CPU5 together with the address of the master tape read by a time code reader 12 and compared with the editing data of a data memory 6.
