PURPOSE:To prepare optical glass by the sol-gel method after executing drying of the gel obtd. by hydrolyzing soln. consisting of silicon alcoholate, water, and an org. solvent by adjusting the water content of the soln. contained in the gel to a specified value. CONSTITUTION:In the sol-gel method for prepg. a transparent glass by drying and sintering the gel obtd. after hydrolyzing a soln. consisting essentially of silicon alcoholate, water and an org. solvent, the drying of said gel is executed while controlling the water content of the soln. contained in the gel to <=40wt%. Further, the above described org. solvent is pref. those having higher boiling point than ethanol or one contg. such high boiling point org. solvent, and said drying stage of the gel is pref. executed after adding an org. solvent having higher b.p. than methanol or ethanol, or a soln. contg. said higher boiling solvent to the gel after gelation and before drying. |
