Surface structure for tapping valves, casting channels etc. for liq. metals, has a composite structure consisting of a constructional base material based on graphite, on which is formed a coating layer consisting of at least three successive layers of which the lowest layer is of a refractory mmaterial, the middle layer is of ceramic material or cermet, and the outermost layer is of a metal oxide composite.
