PURPOSE:To enable multivalued recording of each individual recording picture point and to attain the half tone recording of a high quality by conducting and driving an exothermic resistant element in combination with an impressed voltage and the conductive pulse width corresponding to a gradation picture signal. CONSTITUTION:The gradation picture signal is inputted to an address decoder 2. Based on said signal and recording signal data one line or above before, which is held in a RAM3, the address of a ROM4 is specified. The recording signal data read out of the ROM4 is supplied to the RAM3, a line selector 5 and a conductive pulse width selector 6. The line selector 5 supplies the recording signal data SIG to a thermal head 1. The conductive pulse with selector 6 supplies a conductive pulse width pulse signal as an enable signal ENB to the thermal head 1. Then a recording frequency signal PRO and a latch signal LAT are given as a control signal to a variable voltage power source 12 through a counter 8, a semi-fixed resistance 10 and an arithmetic amplifier 11, and a recording electric power source voltage VH is impressed to the thermal head 1 from the variable voltage power source 12.
