PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield, by reacting the corresponding dibenzo[b,e]oxepine derivative with a compound such as 2- dimethylaminoethanethiol in the presence of an OH-activating reagent and a Lewis acid when the substituent group of the derivative is OH, or in the presence of a Lewis acid when the substituent group is alkyl. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula III or its acid addition salt is produced by reacting the compound of formula I [R<1> is H or alkyl; one of R<2> and R<3> is COR<5> (R<5> is OH, alkoxy or amino) or cyano and the other is H; R<4> is H or alkyl] with the compound of formula II (R<6> and R<7> are H or alkyl). When R<1> is OH, the above reaction is carried out by reacting the compound of formula I with a hydroxyl-activating reagent, and reacting the product with the compound of formula II in the presence of a Lewis acid, or reacting the compound of formula I with a mixture of the reagent and the Lewis acid, and when R<1> is H, the compound of formula I is made to react with the compound of formula II in the presence of a Lewis acid. EFFECT:The objective compound can be produced in short steps.
