The supply unit functions as a Stirling engine, the working piston (22) of which interacts with a generator (90) in order to generate electrical energy. By means of a metering valve, which may be designed in particular as a sleeve valve (70), a heat pump cycle functioning on the Vuilleumier principle is switched in. When the metering valve (70) is closed it operates purely as a Stirling engine for the supply of electrical energy. When the metering valve is fully open it functions purely on the Vuilleumier principle providing heat or cold. In intermediate positions of the metering valve mixed operation ensues in which heat, cold and electrical current are delivered in adjustable proportion. <IMAGE>
