PURPOSE:To make possible high-speed and automatic reading operation until data is located during reading of the necessary data by recording preliminarily the identification data corresponding to the data to be recorded in the region just before said data in the stage of recording the data on a cassette tape. CONSTITUTION:The data from an unrecorded part 1, an identification data forming part 2 and a data forming part 3 are successively current-amplified via a writing AMP4 and are recorded to a tape 6. The information recorded to the cassette tape 6 is supplied to an identifying part 8 where the identification data information and the read out identification data are compared and a high- speed signal 12 is outputted to a motor driving circuit 9 when the result do not coincide with each other. A motor 10 is then rotated at a high speed and the cassette tape 6 is run at the high speed until a head 5 locates the unrecorded part in the succeeding data.
