PURPOSE:To improve fuel consumption rate through optimum control of an injection rate, by providing a means which varies and controls the opening of an auxiliary port formed in a plunger barrel located further in front in the lift direction of a plunger than a spill port. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary port 7, through which the interior of a plunger barrel 2 and a fuel passage 6 are intercommunicated, is formed in the plunger barrel 2 independently from a spill port 3. The auxiliary port 7 is located further in front in the lift direction of a plunger 1 than the spill port 3, and this causes the auxiliary port 7 to be closed by the plunger 1 after the spill port 3 is closed. Lateral sliding of a slide valve 8 enables regulation of the opening of the auxiliary port 7. This enables optimum control of an injection rate in response to the operating condition of an engine, and permits improvement of a fuel consumption rate.
