NEW MATERIAL:The novel benzofurazane derivative of formula I [R is NHCH2 COOH, NHCH (CH2OH) COOH, carboxylic acid residue selected from the group of formula II, or their salt]. EXAMPLE:1-[(7-Nitro-4-benzofurazanyl)-amino] acetic acid. USE:A radiation sensitizer effective to specifically sensitizing the hypoxic cell existing in tumor. It exhibits high radiation sensitizing effect at a low dose, and has low toxicity. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting 7- nitro-4-chloro-benzofurazane with a carboxylic acid selected from glycine, serine and thiosalicylic acid or their salt.
