The method, which can be implemented by means of an automatic load switch (circuit breaker) for automatic load switching, comprises the main current being allowed to pass through a contact system (1) and an emergency signal being emitted by a transmitter (15, 16) for an emergency. At the same time as the emergency report, an additional current is produced, which is produced in the form of a pulse in a pulse power source (19), the magnitude and duration of which pulse are sufficient to open contacts (4, 5; 6, 7) in an emergency and which pulse is passed through the contact system (1).
