PURPOSE:To improve the heat insulating characteristic of an exhaust passage and to facilitate production by welding and forming a non-metallic heat insulating layer consisting of ceramics, etc. to the outside surface of a metallic liner and casting integrally the liner to a cylinder head. CONSTITUTION:The non-metallic material such as ceramics having the excellent heat insulating characteristic is thermally sprayed to the outside surface of the liner 11 consisting of a metallic material to form the heat insulating material. The liner 11 having the heat insulating characteristics is then disposed to the inside peripheral position of the exhaust passage and is cast integrally with the cylinder head 3, by which the exhaust passage 5 is formed. The heat insulating characteristic of the passage 5 is improved owing to the presence of the heat insulating layer by the above-mentioned method. Since no spaces are formed between the liner 11 and the body of the head 3, the need for a core is eliminated. The production is thus made simple and easy.
