PURPOSE:To access optional recorded data at thigh speed by an inputting device by making various data recorded on a tape to a file for each collected data and storing control data relating to each file in a memory. CONSTITUTION:Data signals are recorded successively for each file in recording tracks formed in the oblique direction of a tape, and at the same time, file control data of data signals are recorded on longitudinal direction of the tape. when accessing a specified file by index numbers, the index number and access command are inputted from a keyboard. Then, a CPU21 in a processor unit 20 compares the index registered in a file table in a memory 24 with inputted index, and when they coincide, reads out positional information of the tape corresponding to the index number and supplies to a controlling device. Then, the tape starts running and access is made.
