PURPOSE:To execute smoothly and with high efficiency a transfer of a slab in a heating furnace by providing a slab detecting device and an auxiliary transfer hearth between divided transfer hearths in the slab heating furnace in a hot rolling line. CONSTITUTION:A steel slab 2 is carried in the direction as indicated by the arrow by a fixed hearth and plural moving beams 1a, 1b which ascend and descend, and move forward and backward, and heated to a target temperature. In this case, an auxiliary moving beam 7 which executes a reciprocating motion by a driving device between the moving beams 1a, 1b, and also ascends and descends to the upper and lower position by a driving device 9 is provided. When the slab 2 moves to a divided end part of the moving beam 1a, it is detected by a slab detector 6, and driving of the moving beam 1a is stopped temporarily. At the same time, the auxiliary moving beam 7 ascends and holds up the slab 2 on the moving beam 1a, moves to the right, and moves onto the moving beam 1b. The slab 2 on the auxiliary moving beam 7 is put down onto the moving beam 1b which is holding by stopping its movement, and the slab 2 is moved safely from the devided moving beam 1a to 1b. |
