PURPOSE:To form a magnetic recording medium with which a high output and high S/N are obtd. and which has excellent heat resistance, durability, still image stability, etc. by incorporating polycarbonate polyurethane and specific compd. into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The polycarbonate polyurethane and the compd. expressed by the formula 1 are incorporated into the magnetic layer. Since the polycarbonate polyurethane is used as the binder resin for the magnetic layer, the wear resistance intrinsic to the urethane resin is provided; in addition the heat resistance is improved by the presence of the carbonate component. The running stability owing to the decreased coefft. of friction is obtd. and the solubility in a solvent is improved, by which the urethane concn. can be increased to increase film strength. No substituents are incorporated into the phenyl group existing in the molecule of the compd. expressed by the formula 1 and therefore the durability (more particularly still durability), heat resistance, etc. of the magnetic layer are improved and the high output and high S/N are obtd.
