<p>The unit for applying a pre-cut foil blank to bottles is supplied by a conveyor (2). The bottles (1) are spaced apart by a continuous screw (3) before being transferred to a rotating table (7). One or more labelling units (8,9) roll a foil blank, and labels, onto the bottle, which then passes to an exit conveyor (13). A rotating, independently driven, folding and pressing assembly is fitted beneath a support plate (17) positioned over the exit wheel (10). - The pressing units, fewer in number than the cut-outs (11) in the exit wheel and rotating on a different axis, have a shaped rubber insert to fold and crimp the foil onto the bottle neck. They are activated by a cam mounted on the support plate. The eccentricity brings bottle and pressure unit together over a small arc just before the exit. The foil applicator includes a number of vertically movable heads (33) which place and secure the foil on the bottle. - The applicator heads are located on a rotor whose axis (32) is offset to the axis (29) of the bottle transfer rotor (10).
