PURPOSE:To know quenching ratios at a time and to easily make a connection by arranging a polarizer, quarter-wavelength plate, and homogeneous light source for the 1st optical fiber and a half-wavelength plate and a prism for the 2nd optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The quarter-wavelength plate 3 and polarizer 2 are arranged on the end surface of an optical fiber 1a facing the homogeneous light source 10, and the half-wavelength; plate 11 and a polarization splitting prism 12 are provided on the projection end surface of an optical fiber 1b. The plane of polarization of the polarizer 2 is made coincident with the characteristic axis of polarization of the optical fiber 1a to pass linear polarized light, and the wavelength plate 11 is rotated after the connection part of the optical fiber 1b is rotated on its the axis; and two light beams split after being passed through the prism 12 are detected by photodetectors 13a and 13b at the same time to calculate quenching ratios at the same time. This operation is repeated to align the optical fibers with the lowest quenching ratio and loss, and the both are connected at he connection part 9. |
