In a device A for recording information for electronic data processing systems, and a device B to process such a device A with the data words which are held on it, such a data recording medium should have as high a data density as possible, be as small and robust as possible, and be capable of being in a form which is particularly simple to operate. The device B, using which a data recording medium and the data held on it are simple to process, should make fast reading possible. This is achieved as follows. Device A comprises a card consisting of at least two layers as the data recording medium, and the other layer is formed as the recording layer for a coding. The device B according to the invention consists of a read unit, which is equipped with an advancing device for line-by-line reading of the information on the data recording medium card, and a transmitting and receiving unit for light waves. The receiving unit corresponds to the coding which is contained on the card in the narrowest possible grid measurement. The reading unit feeds the recorded information to a memory manager for further processing. <IMAGE>
